The Bulb Bank

 In Blog

It’s often true to say that the best things in life are worth waiting for…

20 years ago I had the privelege of having tea with Christopher Lloyd at Great Dixter and a couple of hours of inspired conversation which has influenced some of our gardening at Brightwater particularly on the development of our wildflower meadows.

Influenced by Christopher’s book ‘Meadows’ – 8 years ago we started planting our bulb bank with leucojum, fritillaria, narcissi bulbodicum and camassia in the damper bit. Crocus were added for early interest whilst the snowdrops are in flower.

The first years we didn’t have much to show for our effort! However this year the bank finally has a wow factor and something we felt we had to share so here are some photos. Next year we plan to be open as a special event to show off this wonderful display of spring colour.
